During Monday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said concerning the Obama administration’s foreign policies, “I think that there have been a number of situations in which you’ve seen this administration intervene in a meaningful way, that has substantially furthered American interests and substantially improved the, uh, you know, the – the tranquility of the global community”. Seriously, even he had a hard time getting this garbage out of his mouth!
It’s hard to even know where to begin! Just look at the obvious. To say the Middle East isn’t the mecca of peace would be a serious understatement. It is a weave of destruction, hard to unravel. However, Obama hasn’t done one thing to make it better, and more than enough to make it worse.
No one could better attest to this than the people of Syria. Since March 15, 2011 when the country broke out into civil war, over 150,000 people have died and many say the number of lives lost is closer to 220,000. President Bashar al-Assad has been using chemical gas on his own people killing thousands. He’s received Obama’s worthless “red line” but ignored the June 30, 2014 deadline to destroy the chemical weapon production facilities. Now Obama is apparently working on some compromises that if not met will have “serious consequences”. There’s little doubt the only trembling being done over this warning is from laughter, because everyone knows Obama’s consequences are along the lines of someone posing with a hashtag sign on twitter.
In Israel, Hamas is determined to continue firing over a hundred rockets a night. When Egypt proposed a peace plan, Israel accepted and Hamas rejected it, even though almost 200 Palestinians have been killed this past week. Israel already signed one cease fire with Hamas in 2012, after Obama gave his word that he would prevent Hamas from obtaining new missiles. Unfortunately Israel, like so many others, is heavily suffering the consequences of Obama’s “words”.
Iraq hits very close to home. Over one million brave American soldiers made innumerable sacrifices fighting there. In 2011, Obama withdrew our troops despite the many warnings from high ranking military and Republicans in Congress, that doing so could reverse the progress made. Now less than three years later, the entire country has almost been taken over by the extreme militants known as ISIS. This group is brutally murdering thousands and causing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. After taking control of the city of Mosul, they robbed it’s central bank of $429 million. ISIS is lead by Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, who was captured by American forces in 2005 and released from camp Bucca by Obama in 2009.
We are still fighting in Afghanistan. Obama wants to have all troops out by the end of 2016. Of course he is being advised against this by Generals on the ground, especially considering the effects of our withdrawal from Iran. However, Obama has made it very clear that he is going to do things his way, not based on what’s best for America. His recent actions in Afghanistan showed this when his administration “accidentally” released to the press the name of the CIA chief stationed there, then a week later, he traded 5 of the most dangerous terrorists American soldiers had captured, for a soldier who was taken prisoner by the Taliban after deserting his post, leaving behind a note declaring he wanted to renounce his U.S. Citizenship. So goes our longstanding tradition of not negotiating with terrorists.
When you put the facts together, it’s chilling to think what Obama means when he thinks he’s intervening in a “meaningful way”. He says he will not allow dictators to have chemical weapons or terrorists to use missiles against Israel as he sits idle and watches them happen. He is undermining all of the progress our American soldiers have sacrificed for by prematurely withdrawing our troops. He has found ways to release the most dangerous terrorists after our forces have sacrificed their lives to capture them. This is not an overstatement. We are seeing what Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, is doing. When he was released he told one of the guards, “I will see you in New York”. Make no mistake, he is planning, and he has $429 million now to work with.
Josh Earnest, as ironic as his last name is, might have gotten the meaningful part right depending on what your values are, but he is deadly wrong on the tranquility part.
